General Questions

  • How can I access files from my mobile phone using AllSync?
You can find information in the guides 'Copy Files from a Mobile Phone' or 'Create a backup of an Android phone'.
  • Can I use AllSync to synchronize the contents of databases (e.g., Outlook) or other files?
No, AllSync cannot synchronize the contents of files.
  • Can I use AllSync to copy data to an FTP server?
You can find information in the guide 'Data Mirroring to an FTP Server'.
  • Does the same operating system need to be installed on both computers for synchronization?
    No, this is not required.
  • Can I use AllSync to back up data directly to a CD or DVD?
No, this is not possible with AllSync.

Installation and Startup

  • On which computer must AllSync be installed if data is to be synchronized between two computers?
AllSync only needs to be installed on one computer. We recommend installing it on the more powerful computer.
  • How can I transfer AllSync settings to another computer?
See guide 'Transfer AllSync settings to another computer'.

Copy Operation

  • Why are unchanged files transferred repeatedly?
You can find information under 'Why do source and destination files still show a time difference of a few seconds after a copy operation?'.
  • How can I automatically start a copy operation when Windows starts?
You can either create a shortcut to your profile in the Windows startup folder or have the profile run automatically at Windows startup via the Scheduler.
  • How can I automatically eject the used USB device after a copy operation?
Enable the option 'Safely remove all external USB devices used during a copy operation' in the profile properties.
  • How can I use a USB device with a changing drive letter?
Use the folder variable %DriveLetter:DriveName% when specifying the source or destination folder. You can also assign a fixed drive letter to the USB device. See section 2. Prepare USB Drive in the guide 'Automatically Start Data Backup When Connecting a USB Drive'.
  • Why are no files copied from subfolders in the local OneDrive folder?
In the profile properties under folder options, disable the option 'Do not search NTFS junction points' so that the contents of subfolders are copied.

Copying Files

  • How can I copy open files with AllSync?
Enable the copy option 'Use Windows service 'Volume Shadow Copy' to copy locked files'.
  • How does AllSync determine which files need to be copied?
AllSync uses the file's last modified date, which Windows automatically updates whenever a change is made to the file.
  • Why do source and destination files still show a time difference of a few seconds after a copy operation?
This is caused by how Microsoft Windows handles the NTFS and FAT file systems differently. You can resolve this issue by enabling the option 'Treat files with differing modification date as identical' under Copy Rules in the profile properties.
  • Can AllSync copy files with Unicode characters in their names?
Yes, AllSync can copy files and folders that contain Unicode characters in their names.

Synchronization

  • Does AllSync detect if the same file was modified on both computers since the last synchronization?
Yes, this is detected using the File Conflict option.

Network

  • What kind of connection is required between two computers for AllSync to synchronize data?
The computers must be connected via a network and the data must be shared with read and write access.
  • Which ports and protocols are used when transferring data to another computer?
AllSync does not use its own network protocols or ports. The software utilizes Windows network functions, especially file transfer via the SMB protocol. The ports used are those standard in Windows: TCP 445, TCP 139, UDP 137, and UDP 138, depending on the respective network environment and SMB version.
  • Why are not all files processed when accessing a OneDrive folder via UNC path?
In the profile properties under folder options, disable the option 'Do not search NTFS junction points' so that the full contents of the OneDrive folder are processed.

Scheduler

  • How can I automatically start the AllSync Scheduler with administrator rights at Windows startup?
See guide 'Start AllSync Scheduler with Administrator Rights at Windows Startup'.
  • Can I run multiple tasks in parallel with the Scheduler?
No, the AllSync Scheduler runs tasks sequentially.
Tip: If you want to run multiple profiles simultaneously, you can launch them individually via the Windows Task Scheduler using the command line parameter -h (without user interface).
  • Why aren't my tasks starting?
To start tasks automatically, the Scheduler must be started and activated.
  • Why doesn't a task start at the scheduled time?
There can be several reasons for this:
    1. The Scheduler is running but not activated.
    2. The task is not enabled in the task list.
    3. The task could not be started because another task was running at that time.
    4. The task's start time is outside the allowed start period. Check the start period settings in the general Scheduler options and in the task settings.

Scheduler Service

  • Why can't the Scheduler service access a user's mapped drive letters?
A Windows service can only access a user's mapped drive letters if that user is logged in and the service is installed under that user's account. Alternatively, use the direct UNC path to the data instead of the mapped drive.
  • Why can't the Scheduler service access the drive letter provided by WebDrive?
Enable the option in WebDrive that allows Windows services to access the provided drive letter.
