AllSync 4 Manual ➝ Profile Properties

File Conflict

This feature detects conflicts between files with the same name in the source and destination folders when using the 'Synchronize' copy mode. A reference list is created after each copy operation, containing the folder structure of all files and folders. The reference list is used during the next synchronization to detect file conflicts.

Table of Contents

  • Detectable File Conflicts
  • Actions for File Conflicts
  • Placeholders
  • Options
  • File Conflict Window

Detectable File Conflicts

The following conflicts can be detected:
  • Different file size
  • Different modification date since last synchronization
  • Different file content (optional)
  • Different modification date for newly added files
  • Replacement by older file in source or destination folder
  • Source file replaced by older version, destination file modified since
  • Destination file replaced by older version, source file modified since

Actions for File Conflicts

You can define the following actions:
  • Do nothing
  • Always copy the source file to the destination
  • Always copy the destination file to the source
  • Create a copy of source and destination file in the respective other folder
  • Rename source and destination file and create a copy in the opposite folder
  • Rename source and destination file

  • Do nothing

    Neither file will be copied.

    Options

    • Show file conflict window to select an action
Displays a window to choose the desired action when a conflict occurs.
    • When should the file conflict window be displayed?
      • During a manually started copy operation
      • During creation of a copy preview
      • During a copy operation via scheduler task
      • During a copy operation via command line
    • Automatically close file conflict window
Closes the file conflict window after a specified number of seconds. With the sub-option Do not show file conflict window anymore, the window will no longer appear for the remainder of the operation after a set number of timeouts.

  • Copy source file

This option always copies the source file over the destination file.

  • Copy destination file

This option always copies the destination file over the source file.

  • Create copies

Creates a copy of the source and destination file with a new name in the opposite folder. The name of the copy can be customized using various placeholders. After a copy operation, the result will be as follows if the format expression %1.{KOPIE}.%2 is used for the copy name:
    • The source file info.txt was copied to the destination as info.{COPY}.txt.
    • The destination file info.txt was copied to the source as info.{COPY}.txt.

  • Rename source and destination file and create copies

Renames the source and destination file and creates a copy of the renamed file in the opposite folder. The new name of the source and destination file can be individually defined and customized using various placeholders. After a copy operation, the result will be as follows if the format expressions %1.{SOURCE}.%2 and %1.{DEST}.%2 are used:
    • The source file info.txt was renamed to info.{SOURCE}.txt and copied to the destination.
    • The destination file info.txt was renamed to info.{DEST}.txt and copied to the source.

  • Rename source and destination file

Renames the source and destination file. The new name of the source and destination file can be customized using various placeholders. After a copy operation, the result will be as follows if the format expression %1.{CONFLICT}.%2 is used:
    • The source file info.txt was renamed to info.{CONFLICT}.txt.
    • The destination file info.txt was renamed to info.{CONFLICT}.txt.

Placeholders

The following placeholders can be used in a file name:
  • %1 = File name without extension
  • %2 = File extension without leading dot
  • Windows Environment Variables

Options

  • Overwrite existing files with copy
Overwrites existing files with the same name as the copy to be created.
  • Perform file comparison if no file conflict was detected
Compares file content if no conflict was detected. Additional settings for file comparison can be found under 'File Comparison Method'.
  • Compare file size if no file conflict was detected
Compares file size if no conflict was detected.

File Conflict Window

The file conflict window allows the user to manually select an appropriate action for each detected conflict between two files during synchronization. The window appears as soon as AllSync detects a conflict between a source and destination file during synchronization. The user receives an overview with detailed information about the affected files and the conflict type.

Possible actions for file conflict
  • Do not copy any file
  • Copy source file
  • Copy destination file
  • Create copies
  • Rename source and destination file and create copies
  • Rename source and destination file
  • Copy newer file

Displayed Information
The window also shows the following details:
  • File name of source and destination file
  • Location of source and destination file
  • Description of the detected conflict
  • A table with detailed properties of both files (e.g., size, modification date, file attributes)

Automatically perform the last action for further file conflicts
This option automatically performs the last selected action for all subsequent conflicts. The file conflict window will no longer be displayed for the remainder of the copy operation.
